Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) distributed a total of 5,729 sets of warm clothes worth Rs. 6,350,000 to the elderly people, pregnant women, and lactating mothers from the poorest and marginalised communities who were badly affected from the recent cold-wave in 11 Terai districts.
RRN has provided winterisation support worth Rs. 5,000,000 to the cold-wave affected people in 9 Terai districts, namely Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa, under the Community Development Programme (CDP) with the funding support from the DFID/UKaid. Under CDP, RRN distributed 5,120 sets of warm clothes that comprised of blankets and mattresses to the neediest families who were already victimised by the massive floods of last August covering 4,555 HHs.
Similarly, RRN also distributed the warm clothes to the cold-wave affected people in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality of Banke and Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa district in partnership with the funding support from the Muslim Aid UK. Under this scheme, a total of 609 sets of blankets and woollen shawls worth Rs. 13,50,000 were distributed covering the 609 HHs.
Winterisation support was distributed as per the recommendation received from the District Disaster Relief Committees (DDRCs) of the respective districts.
The RRN team was well supported by the local authorities – representatives from the Rural Municipality Office, Ward Chairpersons and other local figures in ensuring the smooth distribution process.
