School Infrastructure Development Project (SIDP) is the part of United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)/School Meal Programme (SMP), aiming to reduce child malnutrition and increase school attendance through providing food supply that has all the nutrients necessary for a child’s growth.


To improve learning outcomes of the schoolchildren and increasing the effectiveness of school meals programme through earthquake resilient and child-friendly infrastructure supports.

Expected Results

- Earthquake/disaster resilient 20 school kitchen constructed with furniture,
- 20 energy saving stoves (IICS with chimney) provided to the school kitchens,
- 19 drinking water system installed, and
- 12 latrines repaired/maintained.

Key achievements (As of September 2016)

- Increased the sense of ownership among parents and SMC members towards school governance.
- Construction of child-friendly water-tap that motivated and facilitated school children for regular hand-wash practice and enhanced access to safe drinking water.
- Maintained proper sanitation at school and enhanced the practice of using toilets properly.
- Disaster resilient construction training provided to transform the semi-skilled to skilled masons.
- Constructed 20 school kitchens with improved cooking stoves and supported with necessary furniture.
- School Child Clubs were formed and mobilised for sanitation activities in school.
