Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) has been implementing Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project in Doramba VDC of Ramechhap district with the financial support from Peace Winds America since April 2016 with the aims to construct and reconstruct damaged physical as well as social infrastructure after the incursion of April 2015 earthquake.

Mr Gyan Bahadur Adhikari, Executive Director of RRN inaugurated and handed over the Uttisghari Drinking Water Supply Project (DWSP) to the community in Doramba -1, Barkhurba of Ramechhap district on 20 November 2016 at the presence representatives of Nepal government, civil societies, VDC Secretary, journalists, representative of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and RRN officials.

Addressing the Inaugural and handover programme, Mr Adhikari said “it is RRN's pleasure to support the disadvantaged and marginalised communities of Nepal in the context that, sources of drinking water has been worn out after the earthquake. I know how it was difficult to fetch the water from two kilometres away. You must feel proud of your work which brought a change in your village, where people have access to fresh water now.”
Ms Jenny Sharma, Country Representative of The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) said that it is great exertion from RRN that as a non-state actor has been able to provide its services to poor, vulnerable and socially excluded community.

Mr Deepak Bhat, Central Member of Federation of Nepalese Journalist expressed his view that it is very difficult for anyone to live without water. Now, after the construction of one intake and 6 tap stands the 41 sidelined, the Thami households have become able to get clean and fresh water.

The DWSP has constructed an Intake with an absorbing capacity of more than 8000 litres and 6 taps for water distribution having water source more than Two thousand meter away in Uttisghari riverside. The Project had been selected from the recommendation of Village WASH Coordination Committee.</>

This Project has been completed with the total budget of NPR 692,186. In which, RRN's contribution was NPR 540,071 and community contributed NPR 152,115.</>

There are 41 marginalised Thami families who have been deprived of fresh, clean and safe drinking water since many years. </>

Mr Ram Hari Adhikari, VDC Secretary said that with the support from RRN for toilet construction to DWSP as well as Community-led Total Sanitation Campaign has contributed towards declaring the VDC as "Open Defecation Fee (ODF)" zone by 2017” the Government of Nepal. </>

Mr Jay Bdr. Thami 70, a local said, “no one was paying attention to their voice but thanks to RRN, which made ultimately possible to fetch the water from their own doorsteps.”

Ms Sangita Thami said,"Due to not having toilets in the households, they used to go for open defecation in the jungle. But now it became easy for them to use the toilet after having sufficient water supply. ”

RRN has been supporting the construction of one additional drinking water supply project in Thami Gaun-1, Doramba Ramechhap. There are also WASH activities in 4 schools i.e. Shree Kakling Higher Secondary School Toilet Construction-4, Shree Seti Devi Primary School Toilet Construction-9 Bhadare, Shree Budhodya Primary School Toilet Construction-7 and Shree Dhoigaun Drinking Water Supply Project. With all these projects, 1870 HHs, their family members and children will be directly or indirectly benefited. In addition, the project has also started to campaign for total sanitation in the VDC, Community-led Total Solid Waste, Community-led Total Sanitation.
