Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) organized a programme to commemorate the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake of 25 April 2015 at its office premises on 24 April 2016. The participants lit candles and observed silence for 2 minutes to pay tribute to all 8889 people who lost their lives because of the earthquake.

Dr. Sarba Raj Khadka, Executive Director of RRN recalled that RRN team devoted in support of the earthquake survivors from the 3rd day of the earthquake. He thanked all the development partners and individuals who supported RRN in this campaign. Dr. Khadka also urged to deliver the government’s reconstruction support to the earthquake survivors as soon as possible.

Similarly, Ms. Asja Hanam, Country Director of Welthungerhilfe, Germany and Mr. Karma Gosai, Executive Director of Clean Energy Nepal also paid tribute to the departed souls of the earthquake victims. The programme was participated by RRN staff members, representatives of Welthungerhilfe and the Clean Energy Nepal.

RRN has reached to 39,062 households and 1,908,834 populations from 10 most affected districts for emergency relief and recovery support. The support is estimated to be NPR 250,000,000. The relief and recovery support included distribution of tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, sleeping mats, jerry cans, mugs, school (room) support, solar lights, ropes, carpets, CGI sheets, shelter tool kits, food items and temporary shelters.

With support from different development partners, RRN has continued to support the earthquake survivors for recovery and reconstruction.
