Emergency Relief Support Project in Ilam -2025
In response to the devastating floods and landslides of October 2025 in Ilam District, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) implemented the Emergency Relief Support Project in Ilam to provide timely, dignified, and life-saving assistance to disaster-affected communities. The project was implemented in partnership with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) with financial support from the German Embassy Nepal. The intervention focused on the hardest-hit areas of Mai Jogmai Rural Municipality, reaching 365 flood- and landslide-affected households (1,620 individuals) across all six wards. The project provided comprehensive emergency assistance, including food relief packages, hygiene and WASH kits, winterization materials (blankets, mattresses, warm clothing), and tarpaulins for temporary shelter support.
The response prioritized the most vulnerable populations, including Janajati and Dalit communities, women-headed households, persons with disabilities, elderly individuals, and families with children. Beneficiary identification was led by local government disaster management committees to ensure transparency, equity, and accountability.
With a total budget of EUR 39,493, the project achieved 100% coverage of targeted households and maintained strong financial efficiency and accountability standards. Post-Distribution Monitoring confirmed high beneficiary satisfaction and relevance of assistance, particularly in addressing immediate food insecurity, winter protection, hygiene needs, and temporary shelter requirements.
Beyond immediate relief, the project strengthened coordination with local government structures and reinforced inclusive, accountable humanitarian response mechanisms at the local level, laying the foundation for early recovery and resilience-building in disaster-affected communities.
