RRN Delivers First Direct Medical Aid to Isolated Gatlang Health Post
Gatlang, Rasuwa | 7 October 2026 (21 Asoj 2083)
Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) has handed over essential medicines, medical supplies and equipment worth over NPR 400,000 to Gatlang Health Post in Ward 3 of Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality, Rasuwa. The support was provided by German Doctors e.V. as part of the Bhotekoshi Flood Relief Package.
A difficult journey
Reaching Gatlang meant crossing the Bhotekoshi River on a tuin, a manual rope crossing that carries both people and loads over the water. Once across, the team carried the supplies the rest of the way to the village over difficult terrain. The crossing is risky, and it is one of the main reasons so little help has reached the community since the flood.
An isolated community
Gatlang lies in north-western Rasuwa and is one of the most isolated communities in the district. When RRN’s first field mission visited Rasuwa between 4 and 8 September, it found Gatlang’s 400 households cut off and urgently in need of salt and food. In the weeks since, distance and poor access have meant the village has received only nominal relief. This handover is the first direct medical aid to reach Gatlang since the flood.
The handover
Health post staff received the supplies in the presence of Surendra Tamang, Ward Chair and Chair of the Health Facility Operation and Management Committee (HFMOC), Ward Vice Chair Chandika Tamang, and members of the community. With patients unable to easily reach a hospital, the health post is the main source of care for the village. The new medicines and equipment will help it keep treating patients in Gatlang itself, so fewer people need to attempt the perilous journey out for basic care.
Gratitude from Gatlang
In a message to German Doctors e.V. and RRN, the Gatlang Health Post team thanked both organisations for coming in person despite the difficult roads. They wrote that the support “will make a significant difference in maintaining health services in our community,” and expressed hope that the cooperation would continue in the days ahead.
Part of a wider relief package
The handover is part of a relief package worth over EUR 15,000, funded by German Doctors e.V. Under the same package, RRN handed over medical equipment and medicines to Rasuwa Hospital in Dhunche on 3 October. On 6 October, it supported Thulo Syabru Health Post and distributed nutrition packets to 175 households in Gosaikunda Ward 5.
RRN’s flood response in Rasuwa is supported by German Doctors e.V. and Welthungerhilfe (WHH), with Aasaman Nepal as partner.
