All Three Cut-Off Wards of Uttargaya Reached as RRN Relief Operation Enters Third Week

Rural Reconstruction Nepal completed relief distribution to the last of three Uttargaya wards that had gone unserved since the flood, delivering winterisation materials to 360 affected families at Thula Gaun in Ward 3 on 15 September.
The consignment was loaded in Kathmandu on 14 September and arrived at Thula Gaun at 7:00 am the following morning, where RRN volunteers offloaded it for distribution the same day. The materials were entirely winterisation items, the second such consignment RRN has brought into the district.
Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Uttargaya Rural Municipality were confirmed by municipal leadership on 9 September as still unreached by any relief distribution, more than two weeks after the 26 August glacier collapse sent a debris surge down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems. Wards 1 and 2 were reached on 13 September by a six-truck convoy that travelled the long southern route via Galchi in Dhading. With Ward 3 now served, all three have received relief.
Reaching Danda Gaun
The 13 September distribution followed a convoy dispatched from Kathmandu on 11 September, carrying food in three trucks and non-food relief including winter clothing and blankets in the other three. RRN staff Mr. Duryodhan Adhikari and Mr. Raj Chauhan travelled with the vehicles, overnighting at Deurali before reaching Danda Gaun in Ward 1 on 12 September through hazardous, muddy mountain paths. Food and non-food relief was distributed to 345 affected families across Wards 1 and 2 the following day.
The area has been badly disrupted, with homes, farmland and infrastructure swept away at Paira Besi, Kharetar and the neighbouring hydropower corridors. With the main transport route cut, freight costs on the alternative routes have risen as much as fifty times normal, leaving families short of everyday staples including salt, cooking oil and food grains.
Stocking Dhunche for the next phase
On the morning of 15 September, a further consignment was unloaded at RRN’s office warehouse in Dhunche, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, comprising food items and hygiene kits for 200 households. The stock positions supplies inside the district rather than requiring each distribution to be trucked from Kathmandu, which shortens the delivery cycle for wards that remain difficult to reach. Our field coordinator (Rasuwa) Mr. Lil Karki and field officers Mr. Prabesh Karki and Mr. Subash Ghimire are stationed at the warehouse and oversaw the unloading and stocking.
RRN’s team based in Dhunche had distributed relief food to 70 households in Bhimale and Sole, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality Ward 6, on 12 September. The package followed the government-standard flood-response composition with the addition of Sarvottam Pitho, a fortified flour supplement for emergency nutrition support. Ward 6 is among the areas hit hardest by the flood, with 53 people still reported missing, and the community depends heavily on agriculture and livestock, both badly damaged.
Where the operation stands
Across three rural municipalities, RRN distributions have now reached 941 households and families since 11 September: 166 at Ramche in Kalika Rural Municipality, 70 at Bhimale and Sole, 345 across Uttargaya Wards 1 and 2, and 360 at Thula Gaun.
The access constraints that delayed that reach have not eased. Roads remain washed out, the detour through Dhading adds substantially to journey times, and freight costs continue to run well above normal, limiting how much can move and how quickly. Winterisation materials have now entered distribution across two consignments, and educational supplies for students are emerging as a next-priority need alongside food and non-food relief.
