RRN Relief Reaches Thulobharku and Sano Bharkhu, Closing a Gap Identified in Early September

Field Update  •  17 September 2026

Rural Reconstruction Nepal distributed hygiene kits and essential food items to 207 flood-affected households across three communities in Rasuwa on 17 September, reaching two settlements that the organisation’s own field assessment had flagged a fortnight earlier as underserved.

Gosaikunda: Thulobharku and Sano Bharkhu

In Ward No. 5 of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, RRN distributed hygiene kits and essential food items to 94 flood-affected households in Thulobharku and 73 households in Sano Bharkhu. Both distributions were led by RRN’s Project Focal Person for the Rasuwa response, Er. Nirajan Pokharel.

The two settlements were among those identified during RRN’s first field mission to Rasuwa from 4 to 8 September. That mission found that both had been without electricity and communications for several days, with a substantial number of people still unaccounted for, yet both remained reachable by road while relief concentrated in Dhunche and other accessible hubs nearby. The mission’s central finding was that the decisive distinction in Rasuwa was not between accessible and inaccessible communities but between those receiving attention and those being overlooked. Today’s distribution addresses part of that gap.

Uttargaya: Danda Gaun

In Ward No. 2 of Uttargaya Rural Municipality, RRN staff Mr. Raj Chauhan and Mr. Duryodhan Adhikari facilitated a further distribution to 40 households at Danda Gaun. Ward Chairperson Mr. Aasakaji Gurung was present.

Danda Gaun has been a focus of RRN’s work in the district since the six-truck convoy dispatched from Kathmandu on 11 September reached Ward 1 on 12 September, after travelling the long southern route via Galchi in Dhading. Food and non-food relief was distributed to 345 families across Wards 1 and 2 on 13 September, and winterisation materials reached 360 families at Thula Gaun in Ward 3 on 15 September.

Where the operation stands

With today’s distributions, RRN relief has now reached households across Uttargaya, Kalika and Gosaikunda Rural Municipalities. Supplies held at RRN’s office warehouse in Dhunche, stocked on 15 September with food items and hygiene kits for 200 households, allow distributions to be mounted from within the district rather than trucked from Kathmandu for each round, shortening the delivery cycle for communities that remain difficult to reach.

Access constraints continue to shape what is possible. Roads into northern Rasuwa remain damaged, the detour through Dhading adds substantially to journey times, and freight costs on the alternative routes run well above normal. Winterisation needs are growing as temperatures fall in the higher settlements, and educational supplies for students remain a priority gap alongside food and non-food relief.

RRN’s Rasuwa response is supported by Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and delivered in partnership with Aasaman Nepal, through the coordination structures of the district and the rural municipalities.
