RRN Distributes Kitchen Sets to 171 Households in Thulo Syabru  and Brabal

Field Update | 21 September 2026

Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN), with support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH), distributed kitchen  items to 171 flood-affected households in Ward No. 5 of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, on  21 September. The distribution reached 143 households in Thulo Syabru and 28 households in Brabal.  Many families in the area lost their homes and belongings in the 26 August flood. Replacing the  cooking utensils and household equipment they need to prepare meals is a basic step in helping them  re-establish daily life, and one that becomes more pressing as families leave holding centres or move  into temporary accommodation.

Drawing on stock held in Dhunche

The kitchen sets came from stock replenished at RRN’s office warehouse in Dhunche on 19  September (3 Asoj 2083). Three truckloads arrived early that morning carrying kitchen sets earmarked  for 350 households and hygiene kits for 150, and were unloaded with RRN and WHH staff on site.  Holding supplies inside the district allows teams to move from assessment to distribution within days,  without waiting for each consignment to make the long journey from Kathmandu.

Following up on the first mission

Thulo Syabru and Brabal were among the settlements RRN’s first field team identified during its visit  to Rasuwa from 4 to 8 September (19 to 23 Bhadra 2083). The team found that both communities  could be reached by road yet were receiving little relief, while supplies concentrated in Dhunche and  other accessible hubs nearby. The mission recorded this as a targeting gap in the district’s response  and named these settlements specifically.

RRN has since worked through Ward 5 of Gosaikunda in stages. On 17 September (1 Asoj 2083),  teams distributed hygiene kits and food items to 94 households in Thulobharku and 73 in Sano  Bharkhu, two other settlements flagged by the same mission. Today’s distribution extends that  coverage to Thulo Syabru and Brabal.

Government reporting confirms RRN and WHH activity

On 19 September, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) published a district-level breakdown of relief distribution by agency for the first time. It lists RRN and  WHH among the supporting organisations for kitchen sets, relief food packages and food baskets in  Uttargaya Rural Municipality. The figures in that table are cumulative totals shared across several  agencies and do not represent RRN’s distributions alone, but they provide independent, government level confirmation of the work RRN and WHH have been reporting from the field.

Conditions in the district

Electricity has now been restored across Rasuwa with the exception of 86 households in Gosaikunda  Rural Municipality: 46 in Dahalfedi in Ward 1 and 40 in Lingling in Ward 3. At the same time, the  number of people staying in holding centres in Rasuwa rose sharply on 19 September, from 231 to  794, reversing a decline over the preceding days. NDRRMA has not explained the change, and figures  remain provisional.

As households move out of the immediate emergency period, the support RRN delivers in Rasuwa is  widening. Earlier rounds focused on food, hygiene kits and, from mid-September, winterisation  materials. Kitchen sets now add to that, reflecting what families need to cook and live independently  again.

RRN’s Rasuwa response is supported by Welthungerhilfe and delivered in partnership with Aasaman  Nepal, through the coordination structures of the district and the rural municipalities.
